Please note: You must provide 48 hours’ notice if you cannot attend a class to receive a credit for another class. Missed term classes will only be credited with Beverley’s personal agreement. All credits need to be used up in the term they were booked for. Thank you.

Week 3
Rugged Coasts: Rocks & Texture
Skill Focus: Watercolour isn't just for soft things—it’s great for grit, too! This week is all about texture. We’ll explore rugged dry-brush techniques and the art of "lifting" paint to create the realistic, weathered feel of sun-baked stone.
Practice: We’ll warm up by painting a variety of rock textures, learning how to make paper look like granite and sandstone.
Painting: Capture the wild beauty of a rocky coastal scene. You'll paint a dramatic tide pool or headland, using your new texturing skills to make the rocks feel solid and real against the water.
Week 4
The Old Rowboat: Luminous Glazing
Skill Focus: Unlock the secret to glowing, rich colour. You’ll master the art of glazing—building up delicate, transparent layers of paint one over the other to create complex depth and form that you can't achieve with a single wash.
Practice: We’ll practice overlapping simple shapes to see how colours interact and change when layered transparently.
Painting: Paint a characterful, weathered rowboat resting on the shore. You'll use your new glazing skills to beautifully render its aged wood form and the deep, rich shadows it casts on the sand.
Week 5
Sun-Drenched Architecture
Skill Focus: Capture the drama of light! We’ll tackle straight lines and simple perspective to create a dynamic interplay of light and shadow. You’ll learn how to use shadows to define the form of a building without needing to draw every brick.
Practice: We’ll paint a simple building wall with window shadows, using Payne’s Grey and warm tones to create striking contrast.
Painting: Create a charming, sunny street scene that feels alive! You'll focus on bright sunlight hitting a white wall and the crisp, cool shadows cast by windows, arches, and steps.
