Let's Play Our Way Onto the Page

We're kicking off the term with the silliest, most freeing drawing games around. Your child will draw upside down, draw with both hands at once, and keep the pencil moving without ever lifting it off the paper.

There's even a wavy line trick that makes a traced hand pop right off the page in 3D. It sounds impossible, and that's exactly what makes it so much fun. Everyone leaves with something wonderfully wonky and nobody worries about getting it right.

Warm Up, Loosen Up, Draw Anything

Blank paper can feel a bit scary, so this week we make it friendly again. Lines, shapes and repeating patterns build up into something surprising, like the circle spiral that seems to spin right off the page.

Once your child sees that a picture is really just simple shapes stacked together, everything gets easier. Confidence grows fast in this one, and so does the urge to fill every last corner of the page.

Circles and Ovals Become Your Favourite Animal

Here's the secret every artist knows: almost any animal starts as a few simple circles and ovals. Your child will learn to spot those shapes first, then build a cat, a dog, a horse or whatever creature they love most right on top of them.

The best part is giving it personality, with a cheeky tilt of the head, big soft eyes and a tail with attitude. Suddenly it stops being a shape and starts being a character.

Pull a Face, Then Draw It

Happy, furious, terrified and cheeky, the faces this week are the ones that make everyone laugh. Your child will practise different eyes, noses and mouths, then discover how moving an eyebrow a few millimetres changes the whole mood.

Then comes the really good bit, inventing a character all of their own. Expect plenty of giggling around the table.

Invent a Creature Nobody Has Ever Seen

What happens if you give a lizard some wings, a lion's mane and a long curly sparkling tail? Your child gets to mix and match features from different animals until something completely new appears on the page.

There are no wrong answers in this class, which is why it's always a favourite. Every child leaves with a creature that belongs to them and nobody else.

Fill a Page With Fish, Coral and Curly Tentacles

We're diving down to the seabed to draw octopus tentacles, turtle shells, cheeky sharks and a starfish or two. This is the week for detailed line drawing, where patterns and texture bring every scale and shell to life.

Curly, spotty, stripy or wiggly, every creature gets its own pattern. It's calm, absorbing work, and the finished pages look absolutely brilliant.

Doodle Your Way Across the Galaxy

This week the page becomes outer space, filled with rockets, ringed planets, floating astronauts, a cheeky UFO and a comet streaking past. Your child will build a whole galaxy of doodles, one little drawing at a time.

Simple shapes, bold outlines and a sky full of stars, so it works just as well at five as it does at fifteen. Some kids fill the page and go straight onto a second one.

Turn a Wild Scribble Into a Monster

Close your eyes, scribble like mad, then open them and see what's hiding in the mess. Your child will find creatures lurking inside their own random lines, then bring them out with a bit of shading and one very big eye.

It's messy, fast and completely freeing. Nobody can make a mistake in a class that starts with a scribble.

Googly Eyes, Wiggly Legs and Lots of Antennae

This week the page fills up with beetles, dragonflies, caterpillars, grasshoppers and a frog waiting to snap them all up. Your child will draw a row of wide eyed critters, each one sillier than the last.

Long legs, stripy bodies and antennae with little bobbles on the end are what make these so funny. Creepy crawlies have never looked this friendly.

Build a Robot Out of Boxes and Bolts

We're finishing the term by building robots from squares, rectangles and circles, with springy arms and antennae poking out the top. Your child will add dials, screens, buttons and bolts until their robot looks ready to clank across the room.

Tall and skinny, short and chunky, friendly or slightly grumpy, every robot turns out different. It's a great way to round off ten weeks of drawing.
